    • Wear the included gloves and keep the wet finish off your skin.
    • Tape off the faucet, drain and walls before you start, so the finish lands only where you want it.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Remove old caulk and wash the whole surface with the included prep cleaner.
    2. Step 2Scuff the area with the steel wool, then rinse and let it dry completely.
    3. Step 3Brush on the finish in smooth, even strokes and let it level itself.
    4. Step 4Keep water off the surface for the full 48 hour cure.

    Replacing a dull, stained tub or bathroom sink is a big job. The Homax Tough as Tile Brush-On kit lets you coat the old surface instead. You get a one-part white finish that needs no mixing, plus a brush, gloves, steel wool and a prep cleaner to do the work. A 21 oz can covers one standard tub or two bathroom sinks, and a 26 oz size is also sold.

    The finish self-levels as you brush, so marks flatten out into a high-gloss surface. You can use it on acrylic, fiberglass, porcelain, china, laminate countertops and glazed ceramic tile. Plan around the 48 hour cure, because the tub stays out of service until then. Most of the result comes from the prep, so give the scuffing and cleaning steps your full attention.

    Before you start

    Refinishing a tub is done in a small room with the door half shut, which is where solvent fumes collect. Air the room the whole time, follow the label and the safety data sheet of the kit, and never strip an old finish with a methylene chloride stripper: OSHA and NIOSH traced the deaths of bathtub refinishers to exactly that.
