- Over a deep, crumbling hole, fill it with compound first so the guard has a flat surface to hold.
- If a door slams hard, add a door stop as well: the guard softens the hit but does not stop the door.

About this product
A bigger guard for lever handles and wide knobs
Lever handles and large knobs strike a wider area than a small round knob, and they can miss a small guard altogether. These Homax guards measure 5 inches in diameter, and the pack holds six, so you can cover several doors in one house at once.
Each one is a round white disc with a foam back that absorbs some of the impact. You can stick it over a hole a handle has already made, or put it up before the first dent appears. Paint or wallpaper over it so it blends with the wall around it.
The wall patch and drywall shelf holds 14 more products beside the Self-Adhesive Wall Guard, 5 in, and every one belongs to the Homax selection.
Before you start
In a house built before 1978 the paint around the hole may contain lead. Do not dry-sand or power-sand old paint until it has been tested, mist the area and clean up with a damp cloth instead of a broom. Drywall dust itself is fine and travels, so sand with a mask on.
