When does a texture job need a compressor?

A can is the right size for a patch. When the job is a whole room, or a whole house, the tools on this shelf take over, and all three run off an air compressor you supply. The Homax 3 L pneumatic gun works with a compressor of 3/4 hp or larger, is HVLP compatible, and takes Homax premixed texture that snaps straight onto the gun. The 5 L professional gun needs at least 2 hp and 7 cfm at 25 psi, and it comes with an air shut-off valve, a 1/4 in quick connect and tips of 4, 6 and 8 mm.

The 5 L gun sprays orange peel, splatter, heavy splatter, knockdown and popcorn ceiling texture, from dry mix or premixed material, and its bigger hopper means fewer refills on a large ceiling. The Tex-Pro takes a different route: ready-mix cartridges, sold separately, load into the sprayer, and three tips plus air pressure settings move the look from light to heavy. Homax pitches it at mid-sized jobs, from a large patch to several rooms. Dried texture gets sanded like joint compound, so plan for dust as well as overspray.

Questions

About Homax texture guns and tools

What compressor do you need for a Homax texture gun?

It depends on the gun. The 3 L pneumatic gun runs on a compressor of 3/4 hp or larger and is HVLP compatible. The 5 L professional gun asks for 2 hp or larger and at least 7 cfm at 25 psi. Check your compressor plate before you buy.

Can you spray popcorn ceiling texture with the Homax 5 L texture gun?

Yes. Its label lists orange peel, splatter, heavy splatter, knockdown and popcorn acoustic ceiling texture. You can load dry mix or premixed texture into the 5 L hopper and switch between the 4, 6 and 8 mm tips to change the size of the spatter.

What else do you need with the Homax Tex-Pro sprayer?

An air compressor and the ready-mix texture cartridges, both sold separately. The box holds the sprayer, an air shut-off valve, three spray tips, spare gaskets, a cutting tool for the cartridge seal, a cleaning brush and a storage case.
